Theni Medical College was established in the year 2004 to facilitate adequate and easy medical facilities to the people of Theni district. Theni district, is located in the foot hills of Western Ghats. Basically rural based, it has beautiful green landscape having agriculture as its prime background. ==History== The foundation for Government Theni Medical College was laid on 16 August 2002 by then Chief Minister Dr. J. Jayalalitha. The first hospital and college premises were inaugurated on 8 December 2004. The college premises includes Faculty block, 600 bedded hospital, Casualty block, Administrative block, Examination hall, Central library, Lecture Hall (3x120, 1x150 and 1x250), Blood Bank, Mortuary, Auditorium, Nursing school, Quarters for Dean, RMO, ARMO, Professors, Asst. Professors, Residents, Nurses and staffs, Separate hostels for Boys, girls and CRRI, Gymnasium, Post office, Cafeteria, Bank and Gas plant. Medical college was started in the year 2006 with 100 seats for MBBS approved by Medical Council of India and it continues by admitting 100 students every year. The college is affiliated to Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University. DMLT, Nursing and 8 other Para Medical Courses are also being conducted by this institution.
